Software Testing and fusions: unifying convenience with profitability
The news of the fusion of the two giants Itaú and Unibanco shaked the Brazilian economic area, and reactivated the discussion: if in fact, mergers/fusions work. Apparently, the answer is positive in the country.
According to Associação Nacional dos Bancos de Investimento (Anbid), only in 2008 74% of mergers performed in Brazil were made by domestic companies, which also set the current time of turmoil on international stock exchanges, taking advantage against foreign investors of shares in initial offerings.
All this flux of resources, linking the participation of large companies, also show the acts of the merger, such as the alignment of staff, physical space, and convergence of information technology (IT) used. The virtual space, which will be shared, also adds that the structure must be unique, however, unstoppable.
The difficulty in maintaining the work intact without any harmful change can be solved with efficient systems test, executed in an independent manner. If they are performed in the development stage cycle, they allow a greater number of errors to be discovered earlier, avoiding the migration of problems for the next phase of joint implementation.
Software testing works today as a major allye among the big mergers, precisely because they prevent the union is marked by mistakes, errors, defects, and failures, capable of reaching the systems. A project of independent testing should be completed before any attempt to migration or fusion, as the technology is specialized in rapid changes.
However, the connection of processes, systems and programs should be rethought so that the agility in IT does not become a headache in future, or the hurry may be even higher, to reduce the injury that could have been prevented.
Studying steps, documenting and effectively auditing any IT solution is the right path for fusions and renewal of technologies. Rather than entering in the world of mergers, the evaluation is necessary if companies are willing to invest in the prevention of failures in their systems, with the improvement in the quality of their software. This awareness is worth more than acquisitions. It is commitment to the future.
